All for show

Seen what Michelle Obama is doing today? Apparently the first lady is on the National Mall helping build an energy efficient home! Perhaps she is due a round of applause, no?
Not so fast my young feel-good friends.
Excuse me, but does it strike anyone else as just plain weird that anyone would build a home on the National Mall? Really, does it make any sense to anyone?
The entire show -- and that's really all it amounts to -- is to commemorate the 30th anniversary of YouthBuild, a largely government-funded organization that teaches low-income youths how to transform their lives by learning job skills and building affordable housing.
But folks, if you're going to stage a show, would it not make more sense to actually build a home for someone (a la Habitat for Humanity) in a place where someone could actually live? I'm no expert, but I'm reasonably certain Uncle Sam won't allow a homesteader on the National Mall.
This is all for show and a poor attempt at showing all the 'good' more federally-funded national service can do.
